India vs SA: MS Dhoni becomes fourth wicketkeeper to effect 400 dismissals in ODIs

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni added another feather to his cap as he became only the fourth wicketkeeper to affect 400 dismissals in ODIs. In the 3rd ODI against South Africa, Dhoni stumped South Africa's stand-in skipper Aiden Markram in a flash to reach the landmark. Only ahead of him in the list are Mark Bouncher (424), Adam Gilchrist (472) while Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, who tops the list with 482 dismissals. India's Chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav deceived Markram in flight, and as the right-hander charged down the wicket only to be beaten, Dhoni removed the bails in no time.

Dhoni's 400 dismissals include 294 catches and 106 stumpings. In terms of stumping, the Ranchi cricketer is even ahead of Sangakkara, who had 99 stumping during his illustrious career. In September last year, Dhoni also became the first wicketkeeper to effect 100 stumpings in ODIs.
Earlier, Indian skipper Virat Kohli slammed his 34th ODI century. Kohl, who had hit 112 runs in the first ODI, hit the second century of the series as he went on to score unbeaten 160 runs to take Men in Blue to a healthy 303-run total. Apart from Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan (76) was another batsman who scored a valuable fifty. The two were involved in a brilliant 140-run partnership for second wicket after Kagiso Rabada removed opener Rohit Sharma (0) in the first over of Indian innings.
After losing the Test series 1-2, Men in Blue made a strong comeback in the limited-overs series as they won the first two matches by six and nine wickets respectively.
At the time this report was being written, South Africa were in big big trouble having lost seven wickets with just 158 runs on board.
South Africa have been struggling in the limited-overs series due to injury to their three key batsmen - AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock. While du Plessis and de Kock have been ruled out of the remaining series, de Villiers is expected to make a comeback in the 4th ODI.
