Srinagar, Feb 10: Terrorists attacked an Army camp in Sunjwan area of Jammu and Kashmir during wee hours on Saturday. The terrorists are believed to belong to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group. Two persons - one hawaldar and his daughter - have been injured in the attack. Gun shots were heard inside the camp and the area has been cordoned off by the security forces. Meanwhile, the operation is underway.
The attack was initiated by the terrorists around 4.55 AM on Saturday when a suspicious movement was noticed by the santri. The number of terrorists is not known yet, an official told reporters. He also added that the terrorists have been cornered in one of the family quarters. Notably, the Sunjwan army camp has hundred of quarters for the families of the armymen.
Intelligence inputs had warned an attack on the army or security establishment in view of the fifth death anniversary of Afsal Guru on February 9. The terrorists breached the rear side of the Sunjwan Army camp near Chenni in the outskirts of the city.
"Around 4:55 am suspicious movement was noticed by the santri; santri bunker was fired upon & they retaliated. No. of terrorists isn't known, they've been cornered in one of the family quarters. 2 injured, one Hawaldar & his daughter. Operation is on," Jammu Inspector General of Police (IGP) SD Singh Jamwal was quoted as saying by ANI.
The attack on Sunjwan Army camp comes after Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) for over three times in less than 72 hours.
Earlier on February 5, terrorists had hurled grenades at the Indian Army camp situated in Kakpora area of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. No injury or casualty was reported in the attack.
